Friday Night Lights (2004 sports drama film) is one of those
movies that has lived up to the hype following the success of the book (written
by H.G. Bissinger) on which it was based on. Friday Night Lights tells the true story of
the 1988 Permian Panthers from Odessa, Texas, and their rise to the state
championships. But it is more than their journey on the football field. It’s an
examination of the phenomenon of high school sports, the heartbreaks, the life lessons
and the impact a town can have in a team’s success. Ultimately the film follows
the lives of several individuals including coaches, players, and families who
try to overcome their personal and on-field struggles to win the state
championship.
Featuring an all-star cast with Billy Bob Thorton, Tim
McGraw and Lucas Black, the film is red meat for football lovers. People who don’t
like sports movies and would never think of seeing a high school football game
will also be engaged as the movie is more about the sociology in a football
loving town. Critics such as IMBD and Rotten Tomatoes based on their reviews
have given the film an average of 7.3 and 7.1 out of 10 respectively. Be sure
to check out the trailer below.
